Prepare to Perform Newsletter

What should they be doing now?

“The road to success has many steps”

Welcome to issue 1 of the Year 11 Prepare to Perform Newsletter.  Every month we are going to share with you a snippet of what has been happening at Wildern with a focus on supporting Year 11 students as they prepare for their GCSE exams.

“ Don’t count the days, make the days count"

Year 11 is a significant milestone in your child's educational journey. It will be a busy year, full of academic challenges and exciting opportunities, with every student able to make their first real choices about where their life may take them.

These are truly exciting times, and it is something that everyone should greatly look forward to! We also know that this will be a challenging year for many students, because of this we are committed to providing all students with the care and guidance needed to meet their potential.

Aspirations - Information for parents and carers

It is therefore imperative that we all work together to keep sight of the end goal and ensure that all opportunities are taken to make the most of each day in this final year at Wildern, fantastic!

Mix up the revision!

If your child has three exams in, say, English, Maths, and French, it’s best if they revise English for 30 minutes, then Maths for 30 minutes, French for 30 minutes and then cycle through again, rather than revising each one for a long time before switching.

Practice retrieving the information

Your son or daughter doesn’t want to take the test and find out that they can't actually pull any of the studied material out of their memory. If they practice retrieving the information by asking themselves quiz questions, quizzing with a friend or you, or using flashcards, they will be able to review those areas that they have trouble recalling.

ESP (Extra support programme)

This will be run through the Edulink App. Staff will set up the sessions as clubs, to which some students will be added for compulsory attendance, and for others, it will be a drop-in session that students can add themselves to. The ESPs are an ideal opportunity for students to consolidate and extend their learning across all subject areas and are always well-attended.

English is a Monday, Maths is a Tuesday, History and Geography are a Friday and the other subjects will notify students when inviting them.
